About Allie

My journey into motherhood was one I never expected. I remember vividly being 19 years old and telling my mom, “I am never having kids. Ever.” My reasons? Well, I had had a pretty traumatic childhood and adolescence, which deterred me from the typical feelings of “wanting a family of my own someday.” I was also very out of touch with my feminine body, and the idea of another being inside me, moving all around and impacting every aspect of my life, making me nauseous, and then having to come out of me… it just didn’t sound appealing!

Fast forward. At the ripe old age of 24, I met a man and his daughter who would change my life forever. Of course, I didn’t know this at the time (hardly ever do we have casual moments and know that they are actually life changing). In short, these two had lost the mother in their little family not long before then, and God saw to it that I would be a part of their lives. Eventually, that man became my husband, and that little girl became the daughter I didn’t know I needed, as much as she needed me.

There’s a lot more to the story, and it will unfold as you dive into the depths of this blog I’ve crowned as The Root Wilde. When I think of roots I think “rooted down,” grounded. And at the same time, a tree can look or be “wild” while staying firmly planted beneath the surface. I think of myself this way and I think it’s important to balance the two.

I started this blog because I’ve always had a yearning to share my thoughts with the world, and to be part of a community of like-minded and good-natured people. My experience of becoming a mother was shaped by my own mothering, and there is so much to process, learn, unlearn, and delve deep into in going from “maiden to mother,” as the archetypes go. It’s important to me to cultivate an honest community around the challenges and deep work of this experience—to embody the way that we can be grounded in our identities as mothers and yet stay wild and free, true to our Selves.

Thank you for being here with me! I hope you find something your soul may be yearning for.
